Default Elwha dam removal projectl fish restoration

Too bad. This could be a great opportunity to learn how nature heals itself. To learn how a river recovers from something as damaging as dams. To learn how anadroumous fish colonize new water. To learn how to conduct future dam removals and fish recoveries. Instead a man made catch and kill fishery is going to be produced. They will be using the very model that has destroyed anadroumous fisheries throughout the west. What a waste.

The above thoughts are only my opinion. I understand that many will not see this in the same light as I do.

More on the decision to use hatchery fish on the Elwha.

The last line says it all from the tribes view: "We've put up with dams for 100 years and we aren't willing to wait 100 for fish."
And in this case they have the money to do it. We fought hard to get the bloody dams removed and it seems now that may have not been the answer. Awfully hard to be so wrong.....

The tribe has a right to do what they think is best for them. I am afraid I see this as the tribe succumbing to the same short sightedness the white man had when the dams were first built.
