Default What a difference weight makes!

Last October I purchased an Advanced Elements Straightedge Kayak and was greatly disappointed. The Kayak is fantastic - I love it, but couldn't use it! Something about being 5'4" and 256 lbs -> there was just too much gut in the way to sit comfortably and paddle at the same time. I purchased a High Back seat and that helped but I realized as great a boat as it was I was the problem!

It was time to do something - my son told me about a web site called FatSecret.com. It's a calorie counting site that also has a good mobile app for iPhone or Android. I learned just what kind of garbage I was eating and changed eating habits. Down 40 lbs later I just took the kayak out again. WOW! what a difference. I will be fishing out of it next time Now I have joined a gym and plan to lose another 40 or more.

Somehow good health pays off (Gee, only 61 years to figure that out!), If your a bit over weight and want to enjoy the sport more I recommend looking into one of these calorie counting sites and pay attention to what that fast food does to you.

Congratulations, Panfisher! It takes a lot of determination and hard work to do what you did!

Thank you for the good advice and inspiration, I'm 5'8'' and 220 and I just ate a big bowl of icecream. But after reading your post, that is that, I am going to start watchin my diet more closely. And exersize.

    Thanks, all for the encouragement.

greenlantern - my son is the one who inspired me. He is 5' 8" and was 287, He has lost 126 lbs and is now 161. His doctor has taken him off all medication and breathing machine! He is able to do anything he wants without being worn out now. I figure @ 5' 4" I have another 71 lbs to go before I make my goal.

Congratulations to both you and your son. Great job! Keep it up. It's not easy to do what you accomplished, but it is worth it.

Great job on the weight, and your boat.

I have an Advanced Elements Convertable, and I wouldn't part with it for any amount of money.
