Another great article from Ralph Long! The last sentence in the first paragraph of this newest "Whip Finish" article, says it all about going fly fishing!

"Having been afforded a few hours on a thankfully dry spring day, I was trying hard to keep my pace slow and not get too anxious over getting started."

My mentor Al Campbell, who stuck with me for 3 days at the 1999 FAOL Black Hills Fish-In, taught me many of the basic things that I needed to know in being a fly angler, but the one bit of sage advise that Al told me was to "Let the Pretty Girls Show Themselves!"!

Al and I sat high on the bank of Castle Creek, and watched the water, and waited for the pretty girls to show themselves. To this day, I always wait and watch the water for a long time to give the pretty girls time to show themselves. It seems to work just fine! ~Parnelli
