Got out for a bit today with my hardware throwing buddy that im trying to convert to fly fishing. Fished Lake St Clair near the airforce base for a couple hours. Right off the get-go I get a real nice small mouth near a seawall on a brown over white clouser but lost it as i was trying to get it on the boat. Several minutes i was rewarded with a decent pike. Not the monster im after but not bad either. Fished a rocky shore and slayed the rockbass, the biggest ive seen in a long time. One after another on the same clouser that the pike fell for. After losing that fly I tied on a simple pattern that is basically krystal flash in shiner like colors with red dumbell eyes and did even better on that! throw it out near the rocks, let it sink and bam! fish on!. Cast after cast. All total about 3 smallies, 2 Large mouth, 1 pike, 1 perch and about 100 rockbass. Its nice to see the lake actually coming alive again. As far as my hardware buddy? he got about 15 or so. Not sure if he'll ever ask me out again but I cant wait to go.
