Thread: Yellowstone, Mother's Day Caddis

    Default Yellowstone, Mother's Day Caddis

Trav and I drove south to Mallards Rest Friday afternoon, checking for bugs....a couple of cars with trailers there, probably by shuttle. No bugs of any kind, water maybe warm enough but over cast. Drove back up stream to Pink Creek access, lots of cars and trailers some taking out at about 1:30 pm. If they had hit the bugs they would not have been taking out. Lots of people "looking" nothing showing. Back upstream to DePuys and walked a half mile or so along the river. Saw just a couple caddis in the foam slicks. Two fly fishers on the gravel bar not catching anything.
Back to town at the Sac Park, a few caddis right in town. River in town quite dirty a couple of local creeks dumping in dirty water.
This is now Sat. morning, 44 degrees at 9 am and raining. Both the rain and the cold will shut down whatever bugs had started yesterday. If there is a break in the weather and it warms up we may get a hatch. Too much rain and it is over the river will be blown out.
    Hoping for better *S*

The river this afternoon (Sat) is pretty well blown out...very dirty here in town. You might get some fishing above Pine Creek. The Shields is also high and dirty which will add more dirt to the river below the bridge. A few more caddis when the sun came out. Not looking good.

I see the river has increased from about 2,000cfs to 4000cfs in Livingston the past couple days. At 4,000cfs, it's right at the historic norm, but I bet it will be close to 30,000cfs in a few weeks and near record highs. The upper Yellowsotne watershed snow guages are 152% of average.
