Got out to a small 5 acre lake on Saturday 4-9-11 for a few hours after work. Weather here was cold but calm and this is normally a good early season blue gill and crappie lake. Got there and noticed that the water was up about a foot from normal and it was still very cold. Seen a ripple 50' away from shore and casted a small bead head hares ear to it. Got a strike as soon as it hit, lost the fish and that was it. casted and changed flys so often I lost a foot of leader. Thinking outside the box i grabbed a small 2" red over white clouser and began getting small largemouth. Ive fished this lake in spring for years and never caught a largemouth until today. Got 6 largemouth and 1 crappie. The largemouth were not big but still felt great on my 5wt. Not a great day fishing, but not a bad day either.
Tried a small canal off Lake St Clair Sunday while it was warm. Carp in there heavy and looked like they were muddin. Again tried everything not no aval, not even a strike.
