I'm thinking that in the real hot summer down here that a couple wraps of lead to get them down might help. I just dont know how or if it would work. I started throwing my sparkly wooly buggers first but no takes. It is the 1st fly I always use at this pond. I tied on the blu/white EP and off it went! The water was real muddy and a cold front had come in the night before.
If I want to put lead on it, I cut a piece of .030 (for bigger hooks) the length of the straight part of the shank, and tie it on the bottom of the shank. That way the fly sinks horizontally, instead of jigging. It also keeps from building up bulk at any one spot on the hook shank.
