I went to Cabela's today and picked up a Trekker Hiking Staff. It comes with 3 telescoping pieces and is adjustable to almost any desired length. I read the reviews and it seems that some folks have had a problem with the pieces locking up. I found that if you just keep turning the piece to be adjusted, it will eventually line up the keys and slots and return to the original storage length. When locked into the desired hiking length, they seem quite secure and stable. They retail for $29.99, but right now they are on sale for $9.99. They have a removable rubber tip that exposes a biting tungsten or carbide tip. They also have a removable snow cup. For those of us that waddle more than walk, like me, they should make for some great stability getting into and out of a pontoon boat, canoe or kayak. Here's the link;
