This is a pattern i use alot on my local rivers for smallmouth & rockbass mostly but also throw it to active feeding carp with good results. I have never seen a fly quite like it - but i am sure there is something close to it out there. I made these for a recent swap.
    • Size 8 Mustad Nymph hook
    • Bronze colored bead chain eyes
    • Olive SwissStraw raffia for the shell back
    • Fire orange k. flash
    • Tail and dubbing is a dark brown/black craft fur. Tail is the guard hairs only (with k. flash) and the under fur was used for the body dubbing

These are some others i recently made with some new #6 caddis hooks i just got... I used a larger bead chain and rabbit fur for the tails.

Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day.

Very nice looking helgramites. I used to catch them when I was a kid to use for bait, but I hated handling them since they pinch so hard with those giant pinchers. Great looking pattern.

Very good looking pattern! Since I plan to target some smallmouth this summer here, I may have to tie some of those up and give them a try!

    Thanks for sharing....

Fly fishing and fly tying are two things that I do, and when I am doing them, they are the only 2 things I think about. They clear my mind.

    AtticaFish,

Those look like they would work for damsel fly nymphs also. Nice pattern and tying!

    Best regards, Dave S.
