Thread: Fly Swap question.

    Default Fly Swap question.

Is there any amount of swaps you need to participate in before you host your own? I only ask because that is the rule on another forum. Thanks in advance!

Not that I'm aware of, however, a new guy on the board may have trouble getting folks to sign up until they get to know you a bit better.

Oh, ok. I have to wait until summer to participate or host anymore swaps.

Bear in mind that hosting a swap involves more work, and more expense, than participating in one. Very similar to herding cats. After my second one, I swore to never again do one.

I participated in two swaps before I meistered my own. If you enjoy the follow-ups (and fellowship) have fun meistering your own. I've run a few since and I've been lucky enough to swap with some fine tyers. They tie nice flies and send them in on time - makes a meisters job much easier! Besides - you get to choose the topic. I wish you all the best with your first swap.

    gaeronf,

Feel free to try you hand at meistering your own swap, but with the low swap activity going on right now, you may not have any takers at all. Meistering your own swap can be fun. A successful swap just takes a little commitment on your part to keep communications open and keep iot moving. Check the thread daily if you can and respond to any posts from your swappers in a timely fashion.

In the meantime, read the following threads here on FAOL and get a feel for the what others do and prefer with swaps. I would also suggest reading a few swap threads start to finish to get a feel for how they work here. Not all forums do swaps the same.

FYI Gaeron will not be on the BB for three months. If you really need to know the details contact Denny.

No need to contact me. All Admins are aware of the reason for the ban. Gaeron is also aware. It has nothing at all to do with any swap. We are all in agreement, I do not feel there is any reason for washing laundry on our BB.
