It was with great surprise and nostalgia when, after joining FAOL, that I found the SE Kansas fishin sight.
I was born in Wichita,KS and our family moved to N. Idaho after the death of my father. My Uncle Julie Tavernaro farmed north of the surface mining area in the area of Ringo. My fraternal grandmother lived in Girard, Ks. My fraternal grandfather was, I believe a mechanic working at one of the mining operations. He was killed in a mining accident when my father was a baby in the early 1900's.
On a return visit to my uncle's farm (1964 or 65) he took me fishing at one the pits near his farm. Although this was a long time before taking up fly fishing, I have very fond memories of that day and the size of the blue gills caught.
Thanks so much for the memory jog.
