Default TINSEL CADDIS - Fly of the week - February 14, 2011

    TINSEL CADDIS

I have been tying and fishing this fly for longer than I can remember. The first time I tied it up I used a curved hook because I was out of size 12 and 14 standard dry fly hooks. Not only that, but I was also feeling a bit lazy and didn?t want to dress the body with anything, but I did want to at least put something on that might attract the trout, so I went with some red tinsel against black thread. It worked really well.

Nice one, Hugo. Lands in the simple to tie catagory, my personal favorite. In this case though, I wonder if a down eye hook wouldn't make it easier to thread a tippet through the eye with the hair butts like they are. I know I tie all my hair winged caddis on down eye hooks for that reason.

    Ron,
I really haven't noticed much of a difference, of course my eye's might be a little younger than yours, lol. This is the fly I caught that cutthroat on when I was fishing with you at Lowell.

Awright, Hugo, let's watch that old man's eyes stuff! Then again, your more than likely right.

This is a simpler version of a fly that I found at the Hiwassee Angler shop in E. Tennessee last September, the Sedgehammer. I had never seen it before but it looked like the ticket for the Tellico. Was well pleased with the results. I have tied several in anticipation of another trip to that area. Now Hugo you have shown me a simpler version of a very similiar fly. Got to tie some of these too. Thanks.
