The FFF Ralph Moon Memorial Fund

A bright light in the world of fly fishing was extinguished Wednesday, January 26, 2011 when Ralph W. Moon crossed the creek and entered fly fishing heaven. He was 85 years old. A passionate river conservationist, master cane rod maker, award winning fly tyer, expert fly fisherman, outdoor writer, and a great friend, Ralph Moon passed away at his home on the banks of the Henry?s Fork of the Snake River, near St. Anthony, ID.

Past FFF President Al Wilkie reports that during his administration as president of the FFF, he asked the Southern Council of the FFF for a grant of $5,000.00 to fund a new Educational Trust Fund. The SOC approved and funded the $5,000.00 grant. The FFF's Excom approved the creation of the fund during its December, 1987 meeting which was ratified by the Board of Directors in 1988. The fund was named "The Ralph Moon Fund" and its intent was to fund FFF educational materials. The original fund was transferred to the Foundation in the mid 1990's along with some additional donations. Since 1998 the FFF Foundation in combination with other funds has distributed almost $5,000 to support the educational projects of the FFF Discovery Center.

FFF Foundation President Earl Rettig reports that the Ralph Moon Fund is still held in the FFF Foundation with current assets of $22,616.57 as of 12/31/10. Included in this amount is some $1,500 in earned income that was available for distribution. Retaining all assets in perpetual accounts and only using earned income for beneficial uses is the best way to establish memorials. Additional donations to the Ralph Moon Fund will increase the assets of the fund, allow more project sponsorship, and be a further memorial to this great man

Donations should be made payable to the FFF Foundation, Inc. Please send all such special donations to:

    Earl Rettig
Federation of Fly Fishers Foundation, Inc.

Rest in Peace Ralph. Anyone have word on how his wife Pat is doing? Ralph had a defibrillator implanted many years ago and the darn thing malfunctioned at a big show in San Mateo. Ralph was shocked because that's that the defibrillator does to restart the heart - except he hadn't had a heart problem! Ended up in the hospital....survived of course. I'm sure you will see other stories, a neat life well lived.
