Default ALLOWANCES - Readers Cast (Lewis Cramer) - January 31, 2011

    ALLOWANCES

Days like today take me back; fog hanging low in the frost - flocked cottonwoods and willows along the river. Decoys set along the edge of the gravel bar next to the water of the South Fork. Brushing away the snow, and making a little nest among the trunks and roots of trees tossed by the river, into a pile on the bar.

Lew, that one brought back a flood of memories, especially of a crisp, misty morning on Duck Creek as it ran into Hebgen Lake, MT, with a decoy set swinging in the current, whistling wings overhead and the anticipation as the geese started talking while they lifted off of the lake to make their way up the tribs. Thanks for the trip down the lane, brother.

Glad I could touch a chord. Makes you wish you could bottle those days up and open them any time you want.
    They're just fish, right? Right?
