    Default Colorado Fly Fishing

I will be in Denver next month, Feburary 21 - March 27th. I had a great offer to go fishing with a member in the Denver area. I am also maybe looking for a trip or a Guided Trip, I have looked at Cuttthroat Anglers in Silverthorne, does anyone have any experience with them? Or is there a guide service that I just have to give my business? Thanks

I think Cutthroat Anglers was just sold, try asking your question on the Colorado Fishing Forum? A lot would depend on just where you want to fish.

Let me get you contact info for a couple of guys. There is a lot of really good fishing close in that isn't hard water right now. These guys should be able to put you on some nice rainbows and browns. The spot I would take you is froze over right now.

Evergreen, CO is not far from Denver and is home to The Blue Quill Angler. I booked a guided trip from them a few years ago, and had a great time.

    Drew,

If you are looking in the Summitt County area, look into Breckenridge Outfitters. I've used them each of the past two years and can't recommend them highly enough. They are an excellent shop/guide service and they place a very high emphasis on customer satisfaction. On both trips I paid for 1/2 day and the guide spent far longer (6 hours one trip and 7 on the other) with me (in fact in both cases I was the one who decided we needed to quit).

I haven't used Cutthroat Anglers guide service, but I will say I didn't find their employees overly friendly or open with advice when I stopped in the shop three years ago. Things may have changed since, but at the time what I experienced was pretty much par for the course for them so I haven't been back.

This time of year, a lot of the mountain streams are frozen over. Even many of the ponds and lakes down here in town are a bit tough to get a fly through the thick surface film. The South Platte has some great fishing and lot of it is only a half hour or so from anywhere in the Metro area. Some of it is right in town!

These folks have been a BIG help to me and have referred a lot of repair work and a couple of builds my way. They are stand up folks. http://www.fortackle.com/Guided-Fly-Fishing-Trips-.html The shop is literally a block from the river. Ask for Cody. He's one that can help.

These guys are big on the South Platte and can put you onto some big fish without much of a drive from town. They also know where the open water in the area is. I don't know them as well as I do the other guys, but I have been to the shop and talked with them a bit.

I might add that a lot of really pretty country is not far away at all from downtown Denver. Even the tail waters of the South Platte below Chatfield Reservoir are nice in most places. Between 11 Mile Reservoir and Chatfield is a lot of Gold Medal water. A bit more of a drive, but well worth it.
