Thread: Gloss Coat?

    Default Gloss Coat?

Anyone heard of, or use this Gloss Coat? http://goldenruleflyshop.com/glosscoat.JPG Apparently from Wapsi.

I've never seen this in any fly shops before, but came across it in the fly department of a large sporting goods store in Mackinaw City. Mi. I picked up a 1 oz. bottle for less than $3. About the same as regular head cement.

Wapsi says "Gloss Coat is a fast drying cement that dries rock hard. It is an ideal choice for saltwater fly heads and for salmon/steelhead fly heads."

I'm wondering if it's the same general stuff as as "Hard as Nails" perhaps. If so, it's about more than half the price. Ounce for once that is.

From the looks of the bottle, this isn't some newly invented product. Maybe the old stuff works too.

I've used it. It gives an extremely shiny head. I believe folks that tie full dress salmon flies my use it. It's shiny than Sally's.

Good stuff, make sure to apply with multiple coats (duh), but makes for a nice head.

Thin coats is key. I coated some chironomids with one application and later they turned cloudy.
