But the only Bulldogs worth mentioning are the Fresno State ones, right?

    Question

    Are they Sea Flies?
What fish do you catch with them,
and what are the hook sizes?

This string really has gone dead.

    Donald,

I'm not where folks are, but much of the country just had a rather large snow and ice storm so I can only guess that they're tied up digging out. Anyway, those flies would be useful for a variety of fresh and saltwater fishing applications. I’m guessing that they were tied to fish for Large Mouth bass, but they would also work well on smallmouth bass, pickerel, pike, musky, landlocked striped bass, and even take some salmon or large trout. We now have landlocked striped bass in the majority of large reservoirs here in the southern states. They grow very large and many people use large flies to catch them. The state record here in Georgia is 63 lbs. (~28 kilos). The flies would also be used in saltwater for a variety of species provided they were tied on SS hooks. Bottom line is that they would work pretty much on any species that eats other smaller fish.

Don Poperfly must be busy so let me tell you what his intentions for these flies are. A weel ago I posted a thread RE: flies for Northern Pike so he tied these up for the pike. When I got home from work today I found a package from Poperfly in my mail box. I only met him once over a long weekend and had the pleasure of fishing with him and we hit it off right away he is a good friend and I thank him for his kindness. Let me add that the flies look better in person than they did in his picture.

Kev Thank You for your kindness. Give me a call when the weather in TN warms up and the fishing picks up. I willl come down for a weekend so we can once again go fishing.

    Thank you gentlemen,
I am suffering from cabin fever, been snowed in since the beginning of December.
We do not have the range of fish species, that you have in North America,
but here is some info on larger flies tied for trout in the mid 19th century:-
