Default Support our fly fishing troops

A recent entry in the FAOL guestbook show an Army Sargent deployed in Iraq writing a very nice entry. I sent him an email inviting him to register and share with us his fly fishing experiences and hopefully feel a little closer to home. His name is Darrell Cureton and he is from Missouri. I think it would be nice to email him and encourage him to join. darrellcureton@yahoo.com I remember in Vietnam, the only touch to home we had was a ham radio phone patch with guys standing in line to get their 5 minutes in. It was important for morale then and I don't have to tell you, times haven't changed. Jonezee

Jonezee I took your advice and sent Darrell an invite. Hope he takes us up on it.

By the way, you put the first part of his email address as durrell. It is darrell. You put a u in there where the a should be.

Hey, Jonezee and thanks for the post re: SGT Cureton. He now has a standing invite for some good MO Ozarks flyfishins and "dinner on the house" fron an old Nam Vet.

He has well wishes and a note of thanks for
his service from SC as well, along with an
invite to wet a line. Thanks for bringing
his comments to our attention. Warm regards, Jim

Fish'n Nick..I'm with you, will you take the lead and fill the box with our donations? Where to send to? Great idea, lets keep it simple, photo's would be great, so he knows who and where, flies (even if he ties). I don't think tieing supplies would work..unless of course he has a vice, etc. I'm sure we can ask him. Like the other posters have offered, an envelope with a personal invation to go fishig on his return would probably bring tears to his war sorry eyes, not to mention encouraging his fellow commrades to join us too. You have hit a good vein, keep up the fantastic ideas. If every donner adds a buck, you should have the postage. Jonezee

I'll kick in some flies and stuff along with a few bucks for the postage. Just let me know where to send it.

I just emailed Darrell & in addition to the fishing trip in Ohio, I requested his mailing address so I could make & mail him some of my home-made peanut butter fudge, which is pretty darned good (all braggin' aside). I know when I was in Nam, a box full of sweets was ALWAYS welcome!

    Jonezee,
    I just also e-mailed Darrell.
And then the thought occured to me, just WHAT can one say to show one's appreciation for the sacrifice he and his comrades are making?. I tried.

PS: Nick, I'm up for your suggestion.
