  1. #1

Question Source for SDR 21 PVC Pipe?

    Hi folks,

Does anyone have a source for affordable sdr 21 pvc? I can only find 1 1/4 in. I need 2 in for rod tubes, if I can get it.

    Thanks, John

I just use the 2" Black ABS from Home Depot. Why the specific PVC?

The 2" black ABS is cheap, the fittings are cheap, and Home Depot carries a screw in plug that is flat, no big square lug that looks like a plumbing part. I buy rod tubes for most of the rods I make from Angler's Workshop. For the 5pc Matrix rods, I get a kit on Ebay and use the 2" black ABS for the core. Both are divided for the rod sections and need no rod socks.

    Kevin,

Please explain "kit on ebay". I'm there frequently and have not seen a rod tube or bag kit.

I've bought SDR 26 in various sizes at wholesale plumbing supply companies that sell mostly to contractors, never at any of the big box stores like Lowes or Home Depot. I've never heard of or seen SDR 21 but 26 is a thin wall PVC pipe, much thinner and lighter in weight than sched 40. The only color I've seen it in is white.

"SDR" or "standard dimension ratio" refers to the thickness of a pipe related to it's diameter. The higher the SDR number, the thinner the pipe will be. So SDR 21 pipe will have a thicker wall thickness than SDR 26.

I like the rectangular PVC used in rain gutter downspouts. Thin wall, and no rolling. Use a fabric/velcro fit-over lid.

My local hardware store ( not a chain) carries what they call DWV (Drain/Waste/Vent) , white only but standard PVC caps work on it. Wordks great for me. You might try LOCAL and ask for DWV.
