    Default Modified Breadcrust Fly

    Hi,
Re-reading Pat Dorsey's book on tailwater flies. His sort of signature fly is the Breadcrust - a fly he tied for many years in Colorado. He did not invent it, but took over tying them when the inventor retired from tying.

I added a little peacock hearl between the swept back grizzly hackle and the bead head.

I did not have ruffled grouse feathers, so used a wing feather from a Partridge.

Let me know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Byron

    Hi Bryon,

Very nicely done! I have tied them with grouse, and they are very similar. With the grouse, you get can get some dark spotting on the body, though that might be the only difference. I am not sure if that difference is significant. I would guess, depending on the stream

I do wonder, however, if on a cased caddis fly, do you want full length soft hackle, or if the hackle should be trimmed a bit shorter?

    Again, nicely done.

    Regards,

    Gandolf
