I was contacted thru a mutual aqaintence about a problem that is getting worse in the collecting area . To be specific realistic fly collecting. The collector that contacted me for assistance bought what he thought was a very nice realistc fly . What he could see from the internet photo in any case bared only a slight resemblence to the junk he recieved in the mail. I don't need to caution you from buying on the internet , and the collector that was taken in was not a first time buyer either. It's just not easy to tell from a photograph what is a tied fly and what is a molded or sculpted insect replica. One rule of thumb to use is,if the tier will not tell you how the fly was tied , then it probably was'nt. Only send partial payment until you can view the fly in hand. Don't trust someone just because you 've seen him on this or any other forum.
