    Default A Couple Quick Questions

Do they make any fiberglass Tenkara rods or would they be too heavy to be practical?
When the sections are extended, is it common practice to tape the joints?

As far as I know, there are no fiberglass tenkara rods. I have tried to use a fiberglass panfish pole to fish in the tenkara style, and it was much too whippy. There is a composite carbon/glass rod in the works but I don't know when it will be on the market.

There is no need to tape the joints. Since the rods are telescopic, with the sections closer to the tip fitting inside the sections closer to the butt, they cannot be pulled apart. When you extend the rod, it only takes a VERY little bit o force to seat them well enough that they will not collapse of their own accord when you raise the rod tip.

When I extend the rods, I don't use any force at all. I let the fish do it. LOL

    Lotech,

The composite 75% carbon/25% glass rods are in. They feel noticeably slower in action than the 98% carbon rods.

What might the price range be on the new glass/carbon rods? And are there any that are geared toward heavier fish/fishing?

    Bill,

The composite rods are in the $50 price range. I can't really say I'd recommend them for heavier fish, they really are designed for the same types of fishing conditions as are other Tenkara specific rods.
