I use the same rig in the surf. With a heavy tippet (15-20# test) there's never a tangle.
It's so easy to tie up that there's no excuse not to use it. And also for the same reason, you don't feel bad cutting it off when it's not appropriate
With this rig I've caught schoolie striper doubles 5-6 times in a row, but once you're into the bigger fish the dropper gets lopped off for the sake of landing the fish in a timely manner.
The simpler the outfit, the more skill it takes to manage it, and the more pleasure one gets in his achievements.
