    Default Orinoco bound.

After almost 10 years fly fishing and a whole life of chasing trout, I'm bound for the Orinoco basin to catch some Tucunare.

I'll try and post as many pictures and give you all the details. For now, here are a few flies that have proven deadly on the waters I'll be visiting. Two of them are variations on the actual patterns. The skinny one is said to be the best one.

Here's a list of materials I used on the flies:

I tried to keep it simple!

    Krystal Chenille,
    Marabou,
    Bucktail,
    Peacock sword herl,
    Red thread,
    Bead chain,
    Size 4 3x long hooks.

    Orinoco, here I come!!!

    Hey D,
Good Luck in/on Orinoco. The wine corks as well as the flies piqued my interest . The wines ( googled em ) look as interesting as do the flies. Again, tight lines!

    Default A complete success!!!

    Ok,

I've just arrived from our trip.

Sure tucunares (peacock bass) are one amazing animal to fish for. We were a group of 4 and we landed more than a hundred 10 inchers a few bigger ones and two in the 20's.

Piranhas did their share and our fly boxes came back empty but we're happy.

I'll edit the pictures and uploade them here.

    Dave.

I missed this thread before! How exciting! The Orinoco is on my "list"!
Glad to hear you've made it back safe (whether you wanted to come back or not, right?), and I can't wait to see the pics from your trip!

    Here we are:

    1st portrait:

Francisco Villa. Awarded graphic designer and a slave of the advertising world. Has a passion for all things classic. Never leaves his tenkara rod. We had to force him to do it for this trip. The idea of catching piranhas on a tenkara stick finally persuaded him.

    2nd portrait:

Juan Sebastian Villa. Beloved father of twins, finds it tough to make time for fishing. He is, to say the least, the most enthusiastic fisherman around.

    3rd portrait:

Juan Manuel Laverde. Happy owner of a brand new Wrangler sports. The one that lost its shock absorbers to the road. He's a plastic surgeon and one of the best hand surgery specialists in the continent.

    4th portrait:

    Your's trully.
