    Default A really great vise

    Hi,
I bought number 80 of Jay's vises several years ago. His products are really good I would highly recommend his vise for one in the 350 - 400 price range

His web site is really nice:

The JVise is also available through Wasatch Angling http://www.flytyingtools.com/webpages/tools/JVise.htm . I bought my wife, VEE a J Vise in red while at a tying show. She absolutely loves that vise. The midge jaws are exceptional.

That's a very nice looking vise but a little out of my price range especially when you start adding up the accessories. I remain firmly committed to the " bang for the buck" philosophy. 8T

beautiful looking vice, but there's no way I can bring myself to spend that kind of money on a vice. I have the same mentality as EightThumbs, apparently. Maybe some day though.

Gotta agree, great looking vise but awful expensive. I'd love a Barracuda too but that ain't gonna happen either.

Same here. I couldn't even convince myself to pony up for a Traveller. I do like my Dan, tho.

There are advantages for being a tier at the Fly Tying Expos, such as lower show prices. Plus, VEE liked it. When she's happy, I'm happy.

Looking at the prices, it's really not unreasonable for a vise kit with a C-clamp. Based on the design, different jaws are pretty expensive in comparison with a Dyna King or HMH, but not completely unreasonable. I'm not trading in my Barracuda any time soon, but I'd certainly like to try one.

I'm really happy with my Regal, but I'd really consider one of these if mine ever had a major mishap. I don't believe that I've read any negative comments from anyone that has used it. It looks like it's well designed and has real eye appeal with the different colors etc., even though they all are just made to hold a hook.
Byron- You really live in a beautiful spot. My wife and I stayed in Kapaa for five nights back in 1988, that was part of a three island/two week vacation. We would get up really early and drive to some mountain spots to try and get better pictures before all the clouds developed. I remember cutting my knee's up on the not so soft coral trying to get to deeper spots/holes off the beach there when we went swimming. I wanted to hike at least some of that trail that goes along the Na Pali coastline, but she wouldn't go for it.

    Regards,
    Mark
