    Default FLY JUNKIE - Ladyfisher - September 20, 2010

    FLY JUNKIE

I have to admit I?m a fly junkie. I don?t tie flies any more, which does not mean I don?t still love ?em or appreciate them. When we were at the FFF Fly Faire a couple of weeks ago there were a ton of fly tiers. Most of whom I didn?t recognize not because they weren?t a tier of note, but because I haven?t attended any of the events where tiers are featured in a while. If it isn?t someone who is involved with FAOL or written a book, or done a Fly of the Week I probably don?t know them.

The everchanging landscape of fly tying is almost as much of a draw for me as being on the water itself.

I keep seeing new patterns that I need to try. Not so much new material but new ways of putting them together.
    Keep working on rope dubbing.

    Deanna,

Magnificant article --- I really enjoyed it! I'm looking forward to a book review on the 24 Greatest Flies.

Because of Mr. Sousa, I am the fly fisherman I am today! I met him at a local fishing derby in Amherst, MA in 2006. I tied my first ever fly, a woolly bugger, under his instruction! I caught a 15 1/2 in. Rainbow trout on that fly and will never forget it! I've been hooked on fly fishing since. A fine gentleman and great instructor. Hats off Mr. Sousa! Another good book of his worth reading by the beginner fly fisher, "Learn to Fly Fish in 24 Hours"
