Daytime of course
I really enjoy the first few nice days in March since our season is closed Oct through the end of Feb. The fish haven't seen a fly in months and I haven't been out so the anticipation level is high. I like to fish the streams until the weeds get too high for me than I move on to warmwater species almost exclusively. In Octboer the big fish are in from the big lake, so while salmon fishing has it's own set of negatives, I still look forward to the battles where the "tug is the drug".

Relaxed and now a Full Time Trout Bum, Est. 2024
September. The trout are still taking terrestrials and seem to be trying to pack on some weight before winter. The weather is usually fine, without the afternoon thunderstorms of summer. The sun doesn't set until after 7:00.
Fall is my favorite time as well - been saying it for years.
From the second week of July through August into a bit of September. Cricket and hopper time.
September and October.
Exploring the waters of western Montana...
Fall is my favorite here in Penna. The only 'problem' is that fishing has to vie for equal time with bird hunting and archery. Poor, poor me!!!!! LOL! My two bird dogs have a big say in all this, so the fishing and archery have a tendency to suffer, but I'll live!
