The reels made overseas are as durable as the older ones made in USA, in my experience (and collection). I even have a Compac 1595 reel (copy of Pfleuger) and the parts switch out fine except for the screws that bolt the frame together. I have 3 or 4 of the reels and about 6 of the spools (oldest one has been used for 25 years) and they balance a new rod just fine - and of course they keep on working. I did write to Pfleuger a few years ago when I was paranoid to ask for some new springs and pawls (which they sent for free) but I have not needed to use them. Like the old Timex watch slogan: they take a licking and keep on ticking - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I even have a few of the new Pfleuger Supreme reels, because of the good reputation, and they work well too.
