I keep reading (not only here) about new rods. Have been reading the same stuff for many years now, probably since I first discovered fly fishing magazines. One common thing I read about new rods is that they're lighter than the previous model. Many times, these rods that come out touted as lighter, means that they're up to 1/8 ounce lighter than the earlier version, if that much. We're not talking about going from a 8 ounce rod to a 2 ounce rod here. We're talking about going from 2 1/4 to 2 3/16 ounces.

Does this really mean anything to an angler?

I'm sure at least one person will say something about fishing all day and a heavier rod tires you out. But, come on, does an extra 1/8 ounce really wear you down?
