    Default Very Pretty Fish

I hit a local warm water stream yesterday evening and caught some really pretty sunfish (I've always called these guys pumpkinseeds but don't know the real name).

Also caught a few green sunfish

None of these are big fish, but they think they are big and it's such a pretty little stream it's fun to hit it with a 3wt and just enjoy the evening.

I don't believe they are pumpkinseed. See the flap on the gill. A pumpkinseed has a orange spot on it.

    Panman,
You are right. I've caught these fish in streams around here all my life and always called them pumpkinseeds. I actually think, after looking at pictures last night, they are longear sunfish.

49 years of bad habit are going to be hard to break.

Jeff, They are definitely longear, but the last photo looks like a Green Sunfish, although many people mistakenly call them perch which are not members of the sunfish family.

I don't know why, but it annoys me when people call sunfish perch. It doesn't really matter, but for some reason it's irratating

Green, I'm right there with you. "Walleyed Pike" is another incorrect name I hear from time to time, although not nearly as often.
