    Default Very Pretty Fish

I hit a local warm water stream yesterday evening and caught some really pretty sunfish (I've always called these guys pumpkinseeds but don't know the real name).

Also caught a few green sunfish

None of these are big fish, but they think they are big and it's such a pretty little stream it's fun to hit it with a 3wt and just enjoy the evening.

I don't believe they are pumpkinseed. See the flap on the gill. A pumpkinseed has a orange spot on it.

    Panman,
You are right. I've caught these fish in streams around here all my life and always called them pumpkinseeds. I actually think, after looking at pictures last night, they are longear sunfish.

49 years of bad habit are going to be hard to break.

Longears they be, but whatever you call them, it doesn't get much prettier, does it?
If it swims and eats, it'll eat a fly.

That may be, but rigth now, he's probably happily eating bugs in an Indiana creek. I let him go back to do whatever longear sunfish do on warm summer days.

I understand, I just said that because the record here is like 3 ounces (I think thats the right species anyway...) and theres a few guys who are actually searching for them so that they can get their name on the books. they are pretty rare here.
