Default Fontinalis and Ray Bergman's Trout

    Hi,

I bought one of Andy's copies of "Trout" that he was selling a while back. Just arrived here in New Zealand and it's in great shape and was well packed. Thanks a lot Andy. Just wish the work day would end sooner so I can take it home for a read. At least it's Friday!

Hi Jeff, did you know Fish and Game are looking at possibly stocking Lake Pupuke with Fontinalis next year?
    All the best.

    Hi Mike,

That would be cool. Some of the lakes out around Waiuku could support them too I would think.

Now that you have the book, you can tie up Dr. Burke's plates, six hundred thirty-six flies. You should have a pretty well stocked fly box when your done. Show us some pics when you tie the last fly, we'll be looking forward to it. LOL. Oh... and be prepared to spend a fortune on fly tying materials to tie "the plates".

I love the book and page through it every so often. There's no magic in there but it is an American bible so to speak. It's great history. You bought a winner.

    Hi,

I'm about 1/2 way through and really enjoying it. The plates alone are worth it! Have tied up a Parmachenie Belle, which I've done lots of, just to get into the feel. There are so many patterns I would like to try I'm not sure where to start. Great fun.

Glad your liking the Book Jeff. Now when your done reading it, here's where the fun part begins. Tye every wet fly in all the plates. Not only will this be challanging but will improve your over all tying. Two things that you will see is how beutiful these flies are when they come to life in your vise and second how easy setting wet fly wings will become. It will then allow you to tye flies like this:

Well, geez, Andy. That's just a beautiful fly and wonderfully dressed. I think that if I started tying today, I wouldn't have time to finish all those flies in my lifetime. I'll leave that to the younger guys. I'll just pick and choose which I want to grace a fly box.

Thanks again for my excellent copy of Bergman's Trout.

    Hi Andy,

I agree with REE. That's yet another one of your beautiful ties. My wets have certainly improved since I started tying them, but I've a long way to go before reaching that level. Still, I do plan on trying out many of the patterns. I'm not organised enough in my tying to do them in order, but I'll have a go at the ones that tickle my fancy at the moment.
