    Default 1/16 inch scud back

I've looked briefly for 1/16 inch scud backing material and been unable to find it. I currently have the 1/8 inch which I can split but it gets kind of tedious. Does anyone know if 1/16 is available and if so, where could I get some? I'm needing the color black.

    Thank you.

if you stretch the 1/8 inch wide material while applying it, wouldnt that work??

i do not believe scud back comes in 1/16 in wide.

another option is "flexibody" but you will have to cut it into 1/16 inch wide strips. cut up 5-10 strips at a time should work.

I don't tie a lot of scuds, something I should probably remedy, but I am saving the plastic from a frozen Freschetta pizza. good clarity, good tensile strength with enough stiffness to cut easily with scissors. Pretty good pizza too.

Thanks Normand and Uncle Jesse. I'll try what you're suggesting Normand. I'm actually using the backing to tie up a version of a split case nymph; the scud backing takes the place of the two black biots normally tied into the fly.

I had an assortment of scud back (Hareline?) years ago. I believe it came in two widths: 1/8" & 1/4". I wasn't impressed how the scud back (certain colors, anyhow) aged and degraded over time.

I don't know if it would give the desired effect (don't know what you're imitating), but it sounds as though narrow mylar tinsel (spooled) or flashabou or a similar synthetic would work.

another idea would be to us a couple of strands of flexifloss or spanflex on each side

Try clear mylar tinsel. Rven if you have to use the pearlescent variety you can color ti eithe any waterproof marker.
