Default Glacier National Park (non fishing report)

With the way that the glaciers are receding, it may be time for a name change to Glacial (feature) National Park. We just finished 2 days of hiking on the east side, including one up to Grinnell Glacier and, like last year when we hiked to Sperry Glacier, were saddened by how much they've diminished. On a positive note, with all of the rain they've had recently, the waterfalls were as spectacular as the rest of the scenery, and with a cold front pouring off the Rockies, we had constant 30 mph winds (typical for fishing on the Blackfeet Res) that kept the skeeters/flies away. We had 4 real good bear sightings - a black sow with 2 cubs near Two Medicine, a cinnamon sow with 2 cubs and a grizzly with 3 cubs just outside Many Glacier and a big male grizz climbing up the hill by the Weeping Wall on Going-to-the-Sun Highway as we were driving back to Whitefish; also caught sight of a baby moose (mama not seen) up at the head of Lake Josephine. If you get the chance to visit the park this year, wildflowers should be spectacular; it has been pretty cool/damp until the past couple days and with warm, sunny weather in the foreseeable future, they should really explode. Gonna be tough to get a room anywhere near the park if you don't have one though; it's the 100th anniversary of the park and places have been booked up for a long time. We lucked out and got a Forest Service cabin that was about 10 miles outside East Glacier; close enough to where we wanted to hike and plenty comfy. I'll try to post some pics when I get back next week.

    Regards,
    Scott

Visit Mount St Helen's the Glaciers there are GROWING !!!

There are some that are growing and some that are shrinking..

Will not turn this into a climate thing.. it is just what we see and what we perceive..

Thanks for the report. Glacier NP is our favorite place on earth. We're overdue in visiting there.

We just made our first trip to Glacier a few weeks ago. That is an amazing park and it is worth the effort to visit it.
