I have a pontoon with an electric motor mounted in front of me, to move backward through the water for fishing stillwaters. I also have bad knees, so the motor is pretty much an essential. It is a 28 lb. thrust, and on it's lowest setting will not allow a slow enough speed to work the fly as you would if you were finning. I've made a trolling plate out of a saddle tee, a couple of 1" plastic pipes, an elbow and one of mama's old plastic cutting boards. I haven't tested this yet, to see if it works, but it looks pretty good on the motor.

Has anybody had similar problems with speed? Any drawbacks with a trolling plate? Better ideas for slowing the pontoon down? Next good weather we have, I'm going to try it out. I'll let you know what results.
