If you search the forum there have been a bunch of threads about carp in the past, but the basic game where I fish for them is to find feeding fish, usually tailing with their head down rooting the bottom. Then put a good sized nymph about a foot in front of them and move it just enough to draw some attention. With most fish species I've gone after you can cast a little farther away and they'll come to it or you have a current to drift your offering to them. With carp you really need to get the fly in an area about the size of a large dinner plate right in front of them and hope for the best. There are exceptions, sometimes they'll be aggressive, but most of the ones I've caught have been with a fly placed right in front.
