There have been strings about line tapers...distances involved...who casts how far...etc. ... it reminds me of something I heard Gary LaFontaine mention in a talk I heard him give.

He said he kept notes and a diary on his fishing of course... as longer casts became more in vogue with better technology and such...he noted he was fishing at longer distances and his catch rate had gone down over some years....he said he dropped his casting and fishing distance back to shorter and his catch rate went back up.

It's seems a pretty obvious and logical point but sometimes we forget the obvious.
