The Arizona cactus law is to prevent poachers from wiping out the sagauro cactus. It almost happened, and they are serious about this. It takes 50 years or more for one to get to full size.

Not sure but I've heard that a law is still on the books in Spokane Washington that says "It's illegal to ride a horse through an intersection in downtown Spokane at anything more than a trot." I always knew my home town was a "One Horse Town."

Some of these are lame and some are legitimate. Greenlantern is close, It takes a saguaro 50 years before it grows an arm. In some parts of Az. it is illegal to refuse a person water. If you ever lived there you'll understand.
Chewydog, I think that it's law in Tennessee that you have to make a creditable effort to rescue a person near you who is in dire threat of death if it can be done without undue risk to yourself. In other words, if you are being washed down a flooded stream past me and I have a rope, I have to try to throw one end out to you and help drag you in. I do NOT have to get into the water myself. I don't know if that law got passed. There are some Good Samaritan laws, whic protect people trying to help others in crisis.
In a way I think that it is sad that we need to have laws to mandate basic, civilized behavior. But then, I guess that there are laws against homicide in every country.
