So sorry to hear. My girlfriend and I have been fishing that river every year for the last six years on our vacation. There was one time where she went down in strong current and I threw my rod on this little island and grabbed her by her waders before she went totally under and was fortunately able to drag her to the island. We were holding hands while crossing but she had a bunch of sunscreen on and slipped out of my hands. But her waders were starting to fill and I was able to scoop her up in time, even with a belt on. Saw a guy on the lower Deschutes last weekend with a pull cord life vest. The Deschutes had been pumpin water and he was an older gentleman but that's a great idea for anyone. Especially when there is a lot of water.
