Yep , right here on FAOL. There's a wealth of information in the great people right here on the board. I also got into refinishing old boo's , " there's a big differance between restoring and refinishing" and have learned more from the people here than anywhere else. Theres ton's of older thread's full of great info if you do a little digging or otherwise just ask a question. I know some of the builder's out there would be willing to help all they can. Good luck and welcome to the board.

I guess what I need to do is to refinish and rewrap the rod. I don't know where to start and don't want to damage the bamboo . Do I sand th old finish off? Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks!

    Tish,
There are a lot of different techniques to refinish. but the one you don't want to do is sand.
shoot me a PM and I'll help walk you through it.
I've restored and refinished, there is a difference, a ton of cane.

Go to Walmart and get Citrus finish remover. Scrape it off with an old credit card, wipe down with denatured alcohol and your ready to refinish.

Pick up a copy of Michael Sinclair's Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook.

I second bobbyg's suggestion. I use 3M "Safest Stripper". Does not burn the skin like most other paint/varnish removers.
