Default Al and Gretchen's House Fly Pattern

    Hi All,

My wife and I have a small pool in the backyard. Last night we filled it with water, and this evening I looked at the surface of the water which had a lot of insects. There were some small white moths, (maybe #14 or #16), but most of the insects were flies. A few were shiny (the largest ones) like a bottle fly, and there were also a lot of what appeared to be more like house flies.

At any rate, now I think there is a pretty good need to tie some fly patterns. Al and Gretchen did a great job, and the article is very timely.

You may want to put a pan out in your back yard too, and see what you draw in.

    Regards,

    Gandolf

I think the question should be: Can I put fish in it?
I'm either going to, coming from or thinking about fishing. Jim

Well if you put a pan out and if you put fish in it, they'd have to be panfish, right?

Are the females trapped in the surface film, 'damsels in distress'?
