Many of us older Fly Anglers can remember when the rivers of our nation where used as a place to dump all of our human waste, and used up chemicals from manufacturing.

Minnesota in the 1960's legislated a "Clean Air & Water" bill, long before the Federal Government took up the issue. After the Federal Government passed their own "Clean Water & Air" legislation, Minnesota's version was still more strict than the the Federal Version.

Mayflies returned to the Mississippi River in the late 1970's, and the last couple of years, the hatches have become so large that they can be seen on the National Weather Service Radar. Some of the hatches are so large that cities have to use snowplows to clear the roadways of the dead mayflies that sometimes are more than a inch in depth. Seems that after emerging they are attracted to all the illumination of street, highway, and shopping mall lighting.....

Now there are four mega hatches during the summer months that can be seen on radar.

Given time, Nature is able to renew itself, if people can learn to stop polluting our water and air....
