Thread: Spent-wing parachute dries

    Default Spent-wing parachute dries

This is my go-to fly design for hatches in Wyoming. It has extra hackle and polar wings to help with visability in turbulent water or water with glare (hackle helps flotation, too). On the Adams, the wings are hen-feather tips and the hackle is cree. I treat the hackles and wings with floatant, but let the rest of the fly sink in the film. I tie them from size 22 up to size 10. I like the Klink-hammer hooks, but any sweep-bend hook will work. A straight hook shank will also work, as will shrimp-hooks. The tail segmentation results from 'rope-dubbing' and is very effective. Pick it out if you want a fuzz halo on the abdomen.

Whether you think you can, or think you cannot, you're probably right.

Those look like some nicely tied flies. I like the segmentation and hadn't thought about tying spent wings with a parachute style. I like it.

Don? You might consider doing a step-by-step on this one for Fly of the Week as well. *S*
