Default PUNCH AND BEAD - Fly of the week - May 17, 2010

    PUNCH AND BEAD

Several years ago I discovered a fly called "The Black Widow" in the archives of FAOL. I liked the widow and tied some up and used them with success on panfish as well as trout. Like most tiers I played around with the pattern and developed the "Punch & Bead" fly which I use mainly for panfish but it also works on the local brookies.

    Default Punch & Bead Pattern

The Punch & Bead is the 2nd "Fly Of The Week" article by Tim Anderson. This is a very simple pattern that without having used it, I can tell it has that look that say the fish will respond favorably to it.

Tim's other contribution is the "Wired Ribbon Fly" which is also a simple fly pattern, with a different look that the fish will love.

I like things that are simple, especially fly patterns that do not have too many steps in the dressing of the hook to complete the pattern. I would rather spend my time on the water's edge with a fly rod in my hand and a fly on/in the water, then at the tying bench.

Tim, I like it! Gonna have to tie up a few and see how the fish like 'em at the fish-in.

Can't wait to tie up a few and try them on the local gills.

Interesting fly! Need to sit down at the bench with this one.
