BEFORE you spend any money, go to the meeting and ask a couple of questions. Let it be known that you want to learn how to cast and ask if they put on a casting class or clinic or if any of the guys do one on one lessons. You don't have to spend a lot of money to begin with. Bluntly I fish with several rods that cost over $500 retail and I also fish with a rod that cost me $19. It better to buy an inexpensive outfit and put your time and energy into learning how to work the thing than spend hundreds on equpment that you don't know how to work. Now if you have the money to do both, buy the good stuff, get good instruction, hire a guide everytime you go out and have fun. More power to you, but if you have to make some choices like many of us have to, the how is more important than the what.

Thanks everyone.
I've got a 9' 4 piece 6 weight St Croix Reign, brand new in tube, not even lawn cast. Yours for $60 shipped if you want it. I bought it as a back up and ended up getting another 6 weight. Its a nice rod, just will never get used here.
For the absolute beginner the Cabela's Cahill outfit. Item:9IS-320499 Currently $49. We use 5 of these for teaching purposes.
Just ordered it! Thanks.
Hey Hooked; Don't you just love this site
Yes it is great!
Hooked,
I don't know what you already have, but I have a few used fly boxes, fly wallets, new strike indicators, some new leaders that may be ok for smallies, & maybe some other things that are just taking up space here. Also have the book, Fly Fishing Equipment & Techniques by Jeannot Ruel that might help. No charge & it just may save you a buck or two. It sure beats going to the trouble of sellin' it! This way, I have no unhappy customers...If YOU don't like the stuff, give or throw it away!
If you want some stuff, just shoot me a PM with your address.
