Agate Lake, Oregon
Agate is located near Medford and has a variety of warm water fish. I decided to try Agate today as we have had a couple of warm nights and I thought the water might have gotten warm enough to entice the fish into the shallows where us waders could have a go at them.
I arrived shortly after daylight and fished for about 4 hours before the cold got to me and I gave it up. In that time I caught maybe 30/35 fish half bluegill & half crappie plus one anemic yellow perch. Not real fast fishing for Agate however this was my first successful warmwater adventure for 2010. Fish were not large but big enough to make some tasty fillets if one was so inclined. I practiced catch & release today. Blugill were about 8 inches and crappie 9 to 12 inches. Hopefully things will improve in the next couple of weeks.
Weapon of choice as a Hook & Hackle 9 ft, 3wt and a variety of flies with one called a black widow leading the pack. Look in FAOL fly of the week for the pattern.
Here are some poor pictures to share. The mountain is Mt McLaughin about half way between Medford and Klamath Falls and the picture of Agate shows the masses of anglers hitting Agate(I had the lake to myself).
