    Default Tom Nixon Patterns

    Hi All;
    Posted this under fly tying but thought I might get more responses here:

    After meeting and watching Ron Knight at SOW BUG tie classic fly rod spinnerbaits, I've started trying to tie them. Just placed an order with Janns Netcraft for the supplies I need.

    This got me thinking, do any of you tie/fish any other of the Tom Nixon patterns?

    If so, which ones have been successfull for you and for what fish and under what conditions?

    Thanks in advance;

    Wayne

    Hi Wayne! Can you tell me who Tom Nixon is and what kind of flies he ties? Maybe you can supply a link to a few of his patterns?

    Hi Bruce;
    Tom Nixon is considered a pioneer of warmwater flyfishing, published the book "Fly tying and Fly fishing for bass and Panfish." there are three editions of this book.

    He has a Fly casting club bearing named after him: Contrband Fly Casters http://cbfc0.tripod.com/index2.htm

    They have many of his patterns from one of thier swaps: http://cbfc0.tripod.com/tnswap.htm

    I really like the albino serpent - I'd love to have that as a fly of the week...any takers?

    Deanna,
    I'll do it. I've never tied this pattern so I need to tie a couple of practice flies first.

    Here is my first attempt.

    I will get the pics for the FOTW done in 2 weeks when I'll be tying at the Smallmouth Rendezvous.
