Default A simple experiment that seems to have worked out...

A while back we had a thread on painting blanks. No one really had much of a solution so I thought I would try something. After scuffing lightly with a gray Scotchbrite pad, cleaning with paint thinner then following that up with denatured alcohol, I took a rattle can of Krylon Fusion and turned this 9', 2pc, 5/6 Tiger Eye blank pink. Yup, pink. Rose colored wraps on the stainless snakes with CP and a simple rosewood seat and cork grip finish it off.

While the paint does not like being scraped, it isn't going to pop off due to flexing.

Looks like it came out good Kevin. You could always clear coat it to protect it from scratches as well.

What kind of clear coat would you use, while keeping the weight down and not changing the action?

I would probably use the Krylon Fusion in clear. Less chance of running across incompatibilities that way. If you wait more than 24 hours for the next coat, you have to wait 7 days to recoat. This was 4 light coats over 2 days then I let it set for a week before doing anything with it at all and even then the paint felt soft. It's been another couple of weeks since I painted it and it feels better now.

Thanks for the info. Once again that rod looks great. Have you given any thought of using Dye on the cork or the reel seat. Woodcraft has some cool looking dyes that could take an average reel seat an dress it up.
    Thanks.

Yes, I had been thinking of that. I will be putting another together and want to do a rattan wrap dyed a pink or rose color with just a hint of the cork showing.

That is a distinct possibility. If someone from that organization were to contact me, we could work something out, I am sure. I have been experimenting with Pink Ribbon inlays, too.
