Default A bear was walking across Rainbow Bridge ( Old Hwy 40) at Donner Summit, Truckee)

Sent to me by a friend. I have not varified if true or not.

This bridge is on the Old Donner Pass Highway . It has a spectacular view of Donner Lake and Donner Pass on Route 80.

A bear was walking across Rainbow Bridge ( Old Hwy 40) at Donner Summit, Truckee) on a Saturday when two cars also crossing the bridge scared the bear into jumping over the edge of the bridge. Somehow the bear caught the ledge (see unbelievable photo below) and pulled itself to safety.

Authorities decided that nothing could be done to help Saturday night so they returned Sunday morning to find the bear sound asleep on the ledge. (see photo below)

    image002.jpg
The rescue party will attempt to coax the bear out of its safety hole after securing a net under the bridge.

    image003.jpg
They managed to get the bear tranquilized and the bear fell into the net.

    image004.jpg
The net got lowered down to ground safety.

    image005.jpg
The bear then woke up and walked out of the net.

Trouts don't live in ugly places.

A friend is not who knows you the longest, but the one who came and never left your side.

I remember this story. Like Betty said, it's true. In another lifetime, we used to bicycle up and and down that road for training. Spectacular views and great workout!
