Question Long Island, NY trout fishing?

can any of you tell me if there is still trout fishing in streams on Long Island, and if so, where? in my rather elderly guide to trout fishing in NY state, there is a small section devoted to Long Island that gives some names of streams and parks. i understand that the hatchery at Connetquot has closed. two other names mentioned are Nissequoque and Carmans. does anyone here fish these?

I fish both the Connetquot and the Carmans River. You are correct the hatchery at the Connetquot was closed in December of 2008 after it was discovered that there was an outbreak of the Infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) in the river. There is still fishing there and they did stock the river in 2009 with fish from another hatchery but I don't know if they still do. The trout fishing is good in both the Nessequogue and the Carmans rivers. I mostly fish the Carmans ,usually about twice a week.

hmm...i've heard that some streams on L.I. have "beats" that you must get in line for. is that true on these streams, or does one just find the river, park where you can, and go fishing?

Connetquot and Nissequoque both are State parks. They charge $15.00 for four hours of fishing and you have to stay in your assigned beat. The Carmans river you can fish any where you like. The section of the river above the cement dam is fly fishing only.
